MENDING & ALTERING:
TEES AND SWEATS
Tees and sweats — whether it’s a stylish matching set or and old vintage faithful, nothing is as cozy as tees and sweats. We love them because of the stretch! And that’s also what can make them tricky to work with.
In this course we’ll be covering all the things you can do to fix and alter tees and sweats on a domestic machine (no sergers or coverseamers). We’ve figured out all the little tips and tricks and we can’t wait to share them with you!
You will leave with sewing samples of new techniques AND you will have the chance to use them on your own garments.
We’re partnering with First Kiss Tattoo and Vintage (right across the street!) for this class - during the 2 days of your class, you’ll receive 20% off their entire shop! And, to celebrate your newfound skills set, you’ll be invited to the next Champagne & Shopping Party in their boutique with on the spot fittings and consults.
Bring:
t-shirts
sweatshirts
sweat pants
t-shirt dresses
anything made of t-shirt fabric or sweat shirt fabric (100% cotton is the easiest thing to work with; if you are unsure — bring it and we’ll take a look!)
Learn how to:
do a proper fitting and determine the right fit for your body
crop a tee with a finished or unfinished hem
crop a sweatshirt but keep the waist band
add channelling for an elastic hem
make a muscle tee with finished armholes and waist band
taper sweatpants
shorten sleeves
make a tee or sweatshirt more fitted
use jersey needles and twin needles
use stretch stitches on a regular domestic machine
identify a woven vs. a knit (what makes it sweats + tees fabric)
Skill Level: The more comfortable you are with sewing, the more you will get out of this course! You should be comfortable on a sewing machine: you have ideally completed our beginner courses and / or have made a garment!
