SEW YOUR OWN WAY:
PANTS / JUMPSUIT
You can ♫ Sew Your Own Way ♫
A Guided Adventure Through Sewing a Commercial Pants Pattern
Sign up for 6 weekly classes, making woven PANTS or a JUMPSUIT.
Bring your own pattern or buy one from us.
Get guidance on sizing + fabric choice, watch sewing demos for the parts that don’t make any sense, and most importantly—help with fitting + customizing the pattern to your body.
Beginner to intermediate sewists welcome! Choose a pattern that suits your sewing level (see resources below and email us info@theneonneedle.com if you have any questions).
Independence is required in this class, as everyone will be working on a slightly different project…but they’re all PANTS so there will be lots of crossover and shared skills. And as much as possible, we’ll guide you through every step.
Learn how to:
Read a commercial pattern
Construct a pants muslin (prototype)
Select appropriate fabric & where to buy
Do a fitting & adjust your pattern (some basic pattern-drafting skills)
Construct a pair of pants
Skill Level: You should be comfortable on the machine; comfortable sewing straight lines, curved lines, different seam allowances, edgestitching, and have made 6-12ish basic sewing projects.
Class Size: 5 people
How Long: 6 classes @ 2.5 hours each = 15 hours total
Where: The Neon Needle Studio @ Bloor + Christie (647A Bloor Street West)
Cost: $600 + HST - Includes muslin for one garment, any necessary fusible interfacing, buttons and zippers from our selection. You will provide your own fabric for the final garment. You may purchase fabric from us.
UPCOMING DATES:
March 13, 20, 27, (skip Easter weekend), April 10, 17, 24 @ 6-8:30pm
///PLEASE NOTE///
You must bring a physical paper pattern. If you buy a PDF pattern, you must print it out and assemble ahead of time. Don’t know how? Watch this video.
This class is for woven fabric pants not knit. We will be using the sewing machine only, not the serger. Make sure your pattern is for wovens (non-stretchy fabric).
Each student sets their own pace. We lay out the timline for the average sewist. If you take your sweet time, you may need a Sewing Club or homework if you want to keep pace (that’s up to you). If you’re a speed demon, you may be able to finish a muslin and final garment.
